Reset Time! It’s April!

Finally!
Ok, that too dramatic, but I’m really looking forward to a change. The outside beckons and the weather is finally warming up. It’s the ‘great awakening.’
Much like hibernating bears we leave our nest at this time of year. We gleefully shed our winter coats and boots and rummage in our closets looking for our spring wardrobe.
Changes to My Creative Process
While I will still paint in the studio occasionally I mostly paint outdoors or in my cottage guerrilla studio in our bunkie. I look outside for my inspiration and will be painting landscapes. Yes, I’ve finished painting the still life painting series inspired by my houseplants.
I anticipate exploring my 2025 painting theme ‘Connectivity’ using landscapes, which are inherently connected. I expect the biggest challenge will be finding microcosms of the larger landscapes that speak to the theme.
In addition, I will be frequently painting at our lake cottage in the Canadian Shield, which is mostly off-grid. There’s no water treatment, for example, so I use watercolour paint and ink, which is less toxic.
Even though I started my painting career using watercolours I find that it takes me more than a few paintings to get used to them again after using acrylic and oil paints in my studio.
Painting Outside
Painting outside, which I enjoy, comes with its own challenges especially in the rugged Canadian Shield. I talk about a few of them in this video I did last year. Click on the photo below to check out.
April - June: What to Expect
I’m excited about this next phase of my painting adventure and hope you will join me. The adventure begins next week when we open our lake cottage. We will be there for a week and then home for a week and expect to continue this pattern until next September. This means I’ll be painting both at the lake and in the city. Regardless of where I am I will be painting landscapes.
I hope you’ll participate in my art adventures. You can follow me on YouTube, Pinterest and Bluesky ( click on the icons in the footer to connect ). If you want to see my paintings before I post them then please subscribe to my e-newsletter. I should add that I won’t be posting any new paintings on social media for a few months as I will be posting a retrospective of my lake paintings. So if you want a sneak peak on my new work then the best place to see them is my e-news. The sign-up is in the footer below.
