It’s Time to Get Serious
Share
I came up with the idea, developed it into my painting theme for the year ( connectivity ) and painted some studies. Now what?
I like to explore a theme when I paint. If all goes well I end up with a fairly decent series of paintings that have a coherent visual language. Sometimes it doesn’t work. Ok most of the time I get derailed. I finally decided to grapple with this problem and made a YouTube video about it. If you’re interested you can check it out here.
Thanks to Twyla Tharp
Reading Twyla Tharp’s ‘The Creative Connection’ a few years ago changed how I approached my creative process. Now, I keep a running list of potential ideas in my Bullet Journal, which I use to craft my annual creative plan in December for the following year.
In my most recent video ‘How to go From an Idea to a Painting Series’ I divulge how the idea and theme came about for this year’s theme. I also show you how I painted several studies to further develop my thinking and intent.
Am I Ready for Some Serious Painting?
Now that a visual language for the theme is starting to emerge, the question is whether I’m ready to actually paint the series. Is it time to get serious?
If you watched my previous video on challenges you’ll know I have a hard time staying the course. I’m often sidetracked by something I see that I can’t resist painting or my interest in the theme dissipates. Seriously though, who can resist an inspiring landscape?
For now, I’m looking forward to continuing with exploring connectivity. I already have some ideas for the next few paintings and intend to start right away.
